Two
companies join the group
From May (2004)
the Group has been joined by two new members with interests in mineral
resources.
Minisol Limited
operates from Birkenhead and produces bentonite, coaldust substitutes
and chromite sand used for metal casting and refractories as well
as manufacturing bentonite for other companies which supply civil
engineering, directional drilling and industrial markets.
Minisol currently
turns over about 30,000 tonnes annually and employs 18 staff. Two
of the executives, Phil Mealor and Tony O'Reilly, continue to run
the day to day operations at Birkenhead since the acquisition. "Joining
the Francis Flower Group is a very positive development for Minisol
with synergies between the businesses and the strength of the Group
providing growth opportunities," according to Phil, who
added, "In the coming months we look forward to building
on our successes and to getting to know and work with as many people
in the Group as we can".
Foundry Mineral,
in an allied area to Minisol, imports, processes and markets foundry
bentonites used in foundries for green sand moulding and high volume
small/medium iron castings. Turnover is around 4,000 tonnes per
annum for such applications as gratings and inspection covers, automobile
castings, brake discs and railway castings.
